Have decided to give #ZenBrowser another go, but with conditions:

• #Sidebery, not its unreliable* & not-my-cup-of-tea native tabs
• #FirefoxSecondSidebar https://github.com/aminought/firefox-second-sidebar, not its unsatisfactory native #WebPanels

In case anyone wonders, this [temporary?] change from my hitherto daily [#FirefoxNightly + #Sidebery + #uBlockOrigin + #FirefoxSecondSidebar] has nothing to do with the recent global #FUD wrt Mozilla's #TOU / #EULA, but instead is due to the aesthetic pleasantness of & the desire to use its #SplitTabView #TabSplitView #TabPaneView; two undeniable advantages over Nightly.

* the Zen subreddit is full of users posting that Zen spontaneously lost all their tabs, or all their pinned tabs, or all their unpinned tabs. In my own past months of using Zen with its native #Workspaces & tabs, it also happened to me, twice, & it is most exasperating.

@eknobl Also, the native #TabGroups have been working well for several weeks in , & in my recent testing they also now seem to have become reliable in . The whole native #VerticalTabs UI ootb has ridiculous amounts of padding per tab, such that a stupidly small number of tabs can be open before invoking the scrollbar... i fixed this via some #CSS. The one remaining major design paradigm i dislike is that the tab groups are primitive like in Vivaldi & Chromium, ie, only single-level; no hierarchical trees are possible. Hence, even though the new VTs & TGs are aesthetically pleasing & quite usable, i still keep returning to Sidebery.

Question to #Firefox users.

Do you know a way [eg, in about:config] to force FF to open all bookmarks in #lazyloaded tabs, ie, tabs that are open but inactive / unloaded, til focused?

This works nicely in #Sidebery, but so far i've not found a native FF setting for FF's native tabs.

#FirefoxNightly has been my default browser for years [albeit with occasional wanderings off the path for dalliances with some others ]. Despite the way some dopey Redditors constantly try talking it down as "too unstable for daily use", my experience has given the lie to that propaganda. That said, it is true that occasionally, rarely, there are little wobbles, & i'm now "enjoying" one.

Version Nightly 137.0a1 (20250204145611) Installed on: 5 February 2025 at 10:15:30 is exhibiting three interesting little bugs, all of which i surmise relate to something having gone wrong overnight in its #Wayland compatibility

• at each launch, the window is now not properly remembering its last size, so needs me to drag its side & bottom edges back to where they should be
• its native middle-mouse-button AutoScroll function still works fine, but the distinctive cursor accompanying it is now generated at least 300 px away from the initiation place, which is disconcerting
• the Overflow Menu & general options hamburger menu icons are ofc at the top rhs of the browser, but now their actual dropdown menus appear on the far lhs of the browser

I recall similar problems a few years ago when the FF Devs were still settling in their then-new native Wayland compatibility. I surmise something they've recently changed has interfered now with Wayland. It'll be interesting to see how fast they fix this new bug.

I've loved using the superb AO #Sidebery in my for many years. Nevertheless i have been keeping an eye on the FF Devs' progress with native #VerticalTabs in #FirefoxNightly over the past several months. A couple of days ago i decided to create a new profile [using the new Profile paradigm in Nightly], into which i installed all the same AOs [except ofc not Sidebery this time], copied across all my bookmarks, passwords, form data etc, to basically replicate my familiar browsing setup except this time with the native VTs & #TabGroups.

I've used this new profile instead of my usual Sidebery profile for the past day, to do all my normal browsing, so i can get a good feel for the viability or not of this native paradigm. Sidebery's hierarchical infinitely-nestable tree-structure is vastly superior to any & all simple flat tab-groups paradigms like Vivaldi, Floorp, Zen, & Chromium... & now also Nightly, but i'm trying to be tenacious & tolerate it so i can make it a worthy IRL comparison test.

However what's highly irritating is the profligate waste of vertical space of these native VTs compared to Sidebery; see pic. Multiple times i have launched the Nightly #BrowserToolbox UI & tried to discover the specific css code controlling the huge padding & excessive vertical height of these tabs, so i can drastically reduce it in my #userChromeCSS... but each time it seems to evade me [i'm not very good at this].

Can any actual Devs or otherwise keen FF UI modders please point me to the code in question?

Starting with Firefox 136, profile management is now available in Nightly builds. Users can now more easily create and switch between different profiles.

Linked video shows how to use the new Profiles paradigm, but once more, is totes silent on how to migrate old Profiles into the new paradigm. This is exasperating me, coz i have four much-used existing profiles, & i do not feel like just throwing away all the work that went into building them up over recent years, just to begin afresh.

Hey @firefoxnightly @mozillaofficial howzabout you please explain to we Nightly users with old profiles, how to migrate them? I find the silence on this baffling.

Restarted #Firefox and it just randomly lost *all* of the tabs that weren't in the active #Sidebery group.

Firefox's native reimplementation of #tabgroups can't come soon enough!

Fwiw, #Sidebery is more powerful than TST [2 examples of many = tab groups, & auto snapshot backups] & is fully self-contained, not needing those many extra AOs like TST needs. However...

My sidebar needs are quite modest TBH

...in that case then yep, i get it, Sidebery might be a bit unnecessarily OTT for your purposes. But, have a little look, just in case
