@essjayjay This day, which surprises me each year as i never expect it [i'm completely apart from / outside of any sense of any "community", & events like this & Pride & Mardi Gras etc aren't even on my calendar so i never know they've happened til i read of them], always reinforces to me how very "other" i am. As a post-op transwoman who regards her transition as a failure [not coz i did it, only that it turned out so poorly], "visibility" is the thing most of all that is anathema to me. My entire objective & hope was for "invisibility". There's so much hype & razzmatazz around these days for being different including being visibly different [which i wanna emphasise is excellent & beautiful for all who derive succour & validation from that]. It makes me feel even more odd than already, knowing as i do how much i do not want nor enjoy being visibly different. 
Good, for those it benefits. An ironic unfunny unpleasant joke, for me.

@MissGayle Yes it's propaganda, & yes their actual agenda is hateful bullshit, but fwiw, there actually are scenarios where one's depression occurs or otherwise worsens post-op. That to which i allude is emphatically NOT NOT NOT due to regret at having had surgery, at having transitioned. It is, instead, when one had hoped too high for a surgical outcome that would enable / provide Passability, but when post-op post-healing reveals one still does not Pass. Many might not care, but for those who do, the depression is incapacitating.

There's the law, & there's IRL.
If i, a #PostOp #transwoman, who likes women not men, knew that my showing up at a gathering of #lesbians who are largely staunchly opposed to my presence / attendance, & who would or even just might manifest their displeasure physically &/or verbally to me, i would make a decision from the very start that i would in fact choose to avoid that gathering. I'm not a masochist, i'm not dogmatic, & i prefer being in harmony with peeps, not conflict with them. The fact i might well be legally safe to attend would be neither here nor there to me, as i might not be rhetorically or even physically safe to attend. Why would i want to to that, to myself, & also to the other women there? I really do look askance at those transwomen who insist on imposing themselves on others. Are they really quite certain they've left their erstwhile male privilege behind?
@prismnpen This latest case is ofc every bit as abhorrent as all its predecessors... the many many MANY instances of violence against trans peeps. It's just exhausting.
My prime reason for responding though, is to fly a tiny flag for two points that were not mentioned in the article, & are commonly never mentioned in most similar articles.
- The use of "trans" & the general nature of the discussion when not discussing the specifics of this particular case, seems basically heteronormative in that it focuses on interactions of cis males with trans girls or trans women. It would be so nice to at least sometimes read, in any of these articles, acknowledgement that some of us transwomen despise men, have no interest in them, & are only interested in other women.
- Another trope used in this article the same as so many others i see, is the often implicit but sometimes explicit scenario of the trans woman still being cursed with a penis [my words ofc, not the article's]. Again, that is simply not universally true, some of us have corrected that awful birth defect, but it's just so rare to see articles that properly encompass the full breadth of trans experiences.
Iirc it's been some years since i was last #deadnamed [ironically & sadly by my elderly Dad, not in any malicious way, but coz he's... elderly]. However, so often, so soooooo bloody often, that despised old name is used for characters in novels, tv shows, movies, [sometimes even songs, damnit] & i can't adequately describe how upset it makes me every time. It's not uncommon that i will choose to abandon the book or show, for instances of it being a major character hence occurring all the time. If there's such a thing [ofc, there's not], it feels like i'm being subjected to "Munchausen syndrome by proxy deadnaming". Ugh.

I learned in fedi-posts/toots that yesterday/today [timezone crap] is apparently the annual Trans Day of Remembrance. I didn't know that, i didn't know there was such a thing [maybe it's a Merkan thing?]. Other times i read that it's annual Pride Day again, but similarly [though in this case yes i have heard of it] i never know it's coming, til i begin reading of it again. I live under my rock, keeping myself alone at home, participating in no LGBTQI community of any kind, not being activist in any way, just trying to be motivated enough to bother getting outta bed each morning. I wonder if more trans peeps are public & active, or solitary & inactive like me. I admire those with the courage, determination, fortitude, & self-confidence. I know how to spell those words, but that's all. Onya, fellow trans peeps.

Interesting thought just crossed my mind. If the cards were to fall just right [/wrong?], i could potentially die of both #ProstateCancer and #BreastCancer . Huzzah!
