Boat of Garten Steam Rally
A balmy highland day at Boat of Garten railway station hosted a small but fascinating steam rally complete with steam trains and a variety of traction engines.

Boat of Garten is on the Strathspey railway, and the name comes from an ancient ferry across the river Spey.

A pair of decorative lancet windows have been chalked on the paving in front of the town hall. This is part of Urban Canvas' contribution to "Christmas by the Sea", a month-long art project, and is inspired by the carol "I saw three ships".

Frinton-on-Sea has always been a bit snooty. No pubs were allowed, and instead of "keep off the grass" signs they had ones that read "no picnicking upon the greensward". An old railway advert, seeking to attract ferry passengers said "Harwich for the Continent". It was invariably defaced with "and Frinton for the incontinent"
