Jetzt hier: #conveyUX mit Joy Chiu und "Insights in Seconds: A Case Study on Leveraging AI to Boost Research Access".
#ux #ui #ai #ki #GenAI #userresearch #repository #usability #accessability #product

Hey, I've got a couple of questions about the attached image.

I'm experimenting with how to have this set up. The first link has the description text just placed plainly underneath the link.

The second one uses the A BBR HTML tag to have it appear when one hovers.

My questions:

  1. Is the description hidden on hover unintuitive? I like how clean it is, but it no one sees it, it's not helpful.
  2. Can screen readers read text in an abbr tag? Cleanliness of the site is moot if its inaccessible.

thanks!

- favorites are gestures of appreciation (likes), but they do not enhance the visibility of the post
- if you want to enhance visibility of a post re-share ("boost") it
- include text descriptions of images and videos; #accessability is welcomed on mastodon
- use lists to organize your startpage (e.g. news / friends / events)
- follow tags of your interest and use tags for making post accessible for non-followers

Replying so I can add the #accessability hashtag for more visibility!
It would be way easier for me to just say "whoops, just gonna be terrible for screenreader users" but if there's a not-entirely-terrible (or even just a one-time-terrible setup) way to make it accessible, I'd much rather do that! Here are a couple of examples of what I'm talking about, for additional clarity.

We are now set up to accept financial donations! ko-fi.com/radicalcarecollective also linked in our bio! We are currently raising money for:
♥ Mask Bloc Niagara - helping us access more Covid-19 tests and high quality masks for local distribution.
♥ The building of Corsi-Rosenthal boxes to kickstart an air purifier lend-out service.
♥ Mutual aid for disabled community members.
Thank you!”

We are unfortunately currently out of #covid19 tests, but #masks are a great preventative! We are so pleased to have learned just how important these pandemic precautions still are to our community. If you want to help us restock our tests and pursue other #MutualAid goals in #Niagara, please consider donating to our #kofi ko-fi.com/radicalcarecollective
Thanks so much!

Musings on #accessability after doing some minor tech support for my 85 year old father.

Some of my same-age peers have told me that unlike our parents, _we_ will be able to keep up with the latest tech developments and their use, since we grew up with rapidly changing technology.

I was always sceptical of that. And in recent years, I've become even more sceptical, as important parts of our IT infrastructure - such as #Google searches - have become _less_ user friendly as the companies that maintain them try to squeeze more money out of them to the detriment of the users.

So yeah, it's not looking good for us as we approach retirement age. If you have kids, try to stay on good terms with them so that they can explain this stuff to you. If you don't, try to befriend some younger people who will put up with your tech questions.

I ordered a dishwasher today! Big spend but it means that the dishes do not fall to the one person to wash them now! I am allergic to the liquid and our kitchen is not designed for sitting access to the sink so I can't help with the dishes, son's skin is too sensitive and while 8yo loves it she needs a lot of supervision. My poor spouse was being landed with it all. Now we can all help! #disability #accessability I do wish more architects and designers considered universal accessibility
