A couple other views of The Park at Flat Rock, NC this morning. It was 30F when we got up, but the temps rose quickly with the sun. Always an enjoyable stop, and very flat, unusual for this area (it was an old golf course.)

One of the ponds on the park grounds it covered in green lily pads (none of which are blooming.). The bond is ringed in front with low scrubby plants, and in the distance behind by a stand of green pines and fairly naked deciduous trees. The various trees have buds in a light red, orange and even a faint yellow color, in addition to some bright spring green of new leaves. Pollen is about 12" thick everywhere in the area. The sky is a clear, dry, cloudless blue. I'm joking about the pollen. It can't be more than 5" deep.
Another section of the park and a new wooden footbridge over the re-routed Dye Creek through the center of the property. Behind the bridge and the attractive green lawn is another stand of mostly deciduous trees in the throws of popping leaves out in spring. Many maples with red and orange buds, giving way to green leaves. Truly a beautiful time of year. This is the 10th anniversary of this park, and we're grateful it's in the area.

@tom_andraszek I think we've got a not dissimilar reference point.

For me, its Laisves alėja in Kaunas (in Lithuania).

There's two rows of trees down the middle.

There's park benches under many of those trees.

The generally accepted rule is that you cycle (or skateboard) in that area.

There's a wide pedestrian space either side.

The buildings on either side are around four storeys tall.

You have shops and cafés on the ground floor, with all fresco dining.

You have small offices (doctors, dentists) and apartments on the floors above.

The pedestrianised street runs the entire length of the Kaunas CBD.

It begins in the old town, near Kaunas Castle and the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris Rivers.

It runs around 1.6 kilometres east.

There are trolleybuses running parallel along the streets one block north and one block south.

It would be worthwhile for Australian urban planners to head out to Kaunas just to see this one street.

I guarantee they'd learn a lot about what a pedestrianised space should be.

There's a wide pedestrian space either side of the trees in the middle. Buildings are typically around 3 to 4 storeys tall.
Cafés and small shops with outdoor dining line the sides of the street.

In the Heavens / In Cielo

On my travels I ended up taking a detour to a church yesterday. I had never been to it before and out of the corner of my eye I spotted the moon and the cross peeking through this little angle in the arch. It was hard to get everything into frame - this is the best I could do! 😂
