In the WIP, there are definitely pets in the household, including 3 dogs and 2 cats.

The main characters of the novel #EverlastingRoaringThunder do not have a pet during the course of the story. But it's also better this way, as they are travelling too often to be able to look after an animal properly.

My FMC does not have any pets, but my MMC has two tigers that he's raised since they were cubs. He used to have more, but released them when he decided to move to.the Capital. They are brothers, the older us 大黄/Da Huang and the younger is 小麦/Xiao Mai.

Imogen doesn't; her lifestyle involves frequent stays away from home which wouldn't be fair on the pet.

Juniper doesn't; her lifestyle is too nomadic and uncertain.

Darroll's cat died before the start of his book. He likes to lead people to believe he killed it and be shocked at his savagery. It actually died of old age.

J.'s dog also died before the start of his book, or so I think we may assume.

Yes. Zack and Ruby found a cat in the subway. It was chasing rats and almost got smushed, until Zack rescued it from the train tracks. It was filthy and covered in dirt and soot. They brought her home and cleaned her up. She turned snow white! Now Ghost hangs out with them and goes places with them. She enjoys road trips when the band has shows.

SCs, Franklin and Faraday who run the regional newspaper have a German Shepherd Dog called Scooby

No. Daria doesn’t see the point in having pets. It’s expensive and distracting. Why would you want to take care of something??
(I want her to change her mind on this, but not sure yet if it will fit/make sense in the story.)

No. I just realised none of them have. It's because of the circumstances of their lives. But there live stray cats in the temple and the children and young adults feed them and play with them.

Eleanor's family has some chickens and two cats, but they're not pets. the cats just kind of appeared, and live outside; they're tolerated for hunting vermin but that's about it.

the chickens become important for a minor plot point later in the book. i got interested in them because i have a friend whose mom is a chicken-mom. they're surprisingly interesting creatures.

Jim tended to avoid attachments in our world. He preferred being self-sufficient.

In the new timeline, he has no resources to spare. (No resources at all, in fact.) Though that helps him realize how many attachments he was taking for granted.

Pynkherto, MC of my current story "Roll Back the Moon," has a handful of students he treats a bit like pets. He also might have some terrible & much less human things he keeps in his workshop. Maybe in a future story, we'll learn what they were....

Axial, MC of the Copper Sun cycle, does not have pets. Their art encourages its practitioners to treat animals as equals. In application, this has put poor Axial in some awkward situations, as animals sometimes have a sense of equality very alien to a human

If you try to explain the concept of "pets" to Ashrah, all she will hear is that you enslaved a creature and now keeps it incarcerated for your amusement. She won't see anything inherently wrong with it, but she will think it a massive waste of time, not to mention the probability of the animal eventually turning against its captors.

In the future, she will learn... and *someone* in her family may or may not adopt a Hellhound
