Been playing on erionmud.com and am thoroughly enjoying the crafting system. Having the option to just work uninterrupted, in familiar patterns, appeals to my #ActuallyAutistic need for structure and familiarity, while when my #ActuallyADHD side wants novelty, I can go wander the realm and see what pops up. And if I need something, I can make it myself, darn it! LOL If you try it out and need some pointers, I'm usually up there as Tamryn, so feel free to ask me anything.

Arcane Cache: Review to "Messages from the Universe Graveyard"

A interactive fiction with MUD elements, that takes place in the world of a shut-down MMORPG. Defunct, industrial spaces, overgrown greenhouses, and astral-surreal places – all of them forlorn, disturbed by glitches, and sometimes seemingly bleeding into each other. The best comparison to describe Messages from the Universe Graveyard’s general atmosphere might be Andrej Tarkovskys „Stalker“, although the spirits that haunt this zone clearly derive from an digital age...

Learning about LambdaMOO

So a lot of people in the Lisp programmer community seem to really like this old “Multi-User Dungeon” (MUD) originally developed at Xerox PARC back in the early 90s, and I thought I would start reading through the programmers manual. I mean, it is called “Lambda” MOO, and Lisp people love it, so it must be a functional programming language like Lisp right?

My face when I find that it is a C-like object oriented programming language:

Does anyone play Text-based MUDs?

I tried to get into them a few years ago. I tried one or two but didn't hang in them for any real amount of time. They just seemed empty and like an abandoned part of the internet.

The site that ranks MUDs looks old as heck; realised some of the links are broken. There are hundreds tho.

This is apparently the most popular MUD: aardwolf.com/

www.aardwolf.comAardwolf MUD - Home PageAardwolf Home Page - Information on how to play Aardwolf, background on MUDs, introduction to our community and features, Lua Mud Coding documentation and more.

@lucianwolfe #nerd #confession: I never played #SecondLife. I was born in 75 and had my first social online experiences in something called a #MUD or #MultiUserDungeon. Think text-only #MMO running on university mainframe Unix machines over the internet before the Web. I got unhealthy and addicted to it, so I am careful how much I interact with #metaverse type places.

Glad you found a space in there. I don't think it's bad, just maybe not good for me.
