"Si l'on s'étend sur un banc et que l'on ferme les yeux parce qu'on tombe de fatigue, un policeman vous réveille et vous intime grossièrement l'ordre de "dégager". Et, si vous cherchez, par une ruse désespérée, une allée délaissée et que vous y étendez votre corps exténué de marcher dans les rues, le policeman omniprésent vous en fera déloger pareillement. C'est une loi votée par le pouvoir qui vous fait éjecter de partout."

Jack London, Le peuple d'en bas, 1902

@klim advocates for describing a typeface as a material: klim.co.nz/blog/a-typeface-is-. ATF agreed (in 1902):

“Ads that Vibrate: You can’t build them up from poor materials any more than you could construct a superior violin from inferior woods. It’s all in the material.”

It’s 2024 and it’s my first post on this platform. I catalogue and write about my crafts projects, because I’m often proud of them, and I like sharing them because I very much appreciate many craft projects other people share online, and often draw inspiration from the work of others. Since commercial platforms have for some random reason kept shadowbanning me, and 95 % of my feeds seem to be adverisement, here I am. I hope to find my fellow craftists.

I started the year off with a bang, completing a crochet shawl entitled The Rocking Chair shawl, made of two types of yarn (100 % rustic au naturelle and 80/20 nylon enforced sock yarn) of the same colour and weight. The pattern is from a book by Mary Olki, and was more often used in the beginning of the 20th century with cotton, and created to be laid over rocking chairs in Finland. It has an unusual but very plain asymmetrical pattern divided by five. I made it to use up wool that was otherwise gathering dust, and I enjoyed making the fringes very much. #crochet #historicalcrochet #early1900s
