One thing that SSD's still can't do, Is keep your data Safe for periods similar to that of mechanicals without being powered up every Year.

Too many people have complained about using SSD as offline storage and came to realize that after a year and a half, of being offline a significant amount of the data was gone.

It must be technically feasible to make a pure mechanical HDD that has higher throughputs.

Right as we speak a copy of one of my large audio projects is made to a mechanical HDD. I ask myself why technology has not evolved in a way that single consumer grade drives can take the TB of data they hold in at speeds that are proportional to their size.

It takes 10 minutes for a puny 100GB to be transferred at about 160MB/s from the M.2 SSD to the mechanical spinner which still rotates at that lousy 7200RPM.

My Ultrawide SCSI Fijitsu HDD on my A4000T rotated at 10.000RPM! That HDD is from the last century!!!

IT still works!

If HDD companies put in the proper research we may not be having 20.000RPM drives on servers, because of mechanical limits, but we should have had 10.000 rpm drives now for consumer grade mechanical HDDs.

Anfang des Jahres habe ich die Backup-Lösung (Crypted Cloud) von #SpiderOakOne rausgeschmissen, da alles schlechter wurde (Ausfallzeiten, null Infos, Website down, SSL errors).
Der Grund wird augenscheinlich. In einer Mail macht #SpiderOak nun Werbung damit, dass das alte Team zurück sei, einschließlich des Co-Founders, und Alles wird wieder gut und viel toller.

Vielleicht. Aber ohne mich. Zudem ein #Backup-/File-Server in den USA mittlerweile ein grundsätzliches Risiko ist.

Hallöchen,
wir sind wieder da. 👏

Seit Montag waren wir aus der Linie (off-line), weil es bei bewegung.social ein "kleines Malheur" gegeben hat.
Jetzt sind wir wieder da – mit 90% unserer Followerschaft von vormals 😊 , aber ausradierter Timeline 😪 .
Nun, wir können uns nicht beschweren. Digitalcourage hat uns zu einem reichlich günstigen Preis unter die Fittiche genommen und unterstützt unser Anliegen nach Kräften. Und wir selbst haben das #Backup nicht gemacht. Hoffen wir, dass sich manches wieder installieren läßt.

Wir lernen daraus
1.) Account regelmäßig sichern (Asche auf verschiedene Häupter).
2.) Das #Fediverse ist resilient. Selbst wenn ein Server vom Netz geht, läuft das Netzwerk weiter. Das ist doch genau das, was wir für eine zukunftssichere und #gemeinwohlorientierte #Digitalisierung brauchen.
So ist auch diese #Havarie und ihre Bewältigung ein weiteres Argument für die breitere Nutzung des Fediverse. 🌳

Assuming I'm putting together a tower that'll be used SOLELY for pulling data off of old media, is there a preferred distro that'll make things easy for me?

I plan on using the same box to pull from the following if possible:

5.25 & 3.5 floppies
Zip & jazz
Quarter inch tapes

I can keep this off the public Internet, so outdated software is an acceptable suggestion.

@CCC @tze #Patientenakte #ePA An anderer Stelle beschrieb jmd., dass man beliebig viele und große (?) Dateien hochladen kann, solange sie die richtige Dateiendung haben. Du musst also Deinen VeraCrypt Container nur entsprechend benennen und hast ein aushäusiges #Backup. Vielleicht entwickelt ja jmd. ein praktisches tool für jedermann.

Let’s pick up where we left off. We’ve got a PostgreSQL cluster with a primary server (pg1), a standby server (pg2), and a backup server (repo1) storing backups and WAL archives on an NFS mount.
