One of my favorite #folklore tidbits:
In many parts of Greece it was believed that vampires can't cross salt water. Because of this, they often buried suspected vampires on desert islands.
Greek vampires also had an affinity for shoemaking.
So... there are probably a bunch of fashion-forward vampire islands in the Mediterranean somewhere
@TarkabarkaHolgy Maybe you'd find also very interesting that NW Greece had and still has a prodigious amount cobbler family shops making high quality shoes.
High concentration perhaps?
@TarkabarkaHolgy As a Vampire the Masquerade storyteller, this is invaluable information for me. Thank you!
@TarkabarkaHolgy Of course they'd need good shoes if they're on the prowl all night.
Flip-flops just won't do.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Reminds me of the multitude of German ghosts who were dumped in remote wilderness locations.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Great for #RPG sessions, the local rich quest giver sends you to a mysterious island that has ceased shipping out luxury footwear. When they get there, everyone seems to be gone for the day....
@Capheind I'd love it
@TarkabarkaHolgy
I hadn't heard about the shoemaking bit before. Any (ahem) rationale behind that?
@TarkabarkaHolgy shoes?!
Well I guess with their choice of dinner they had a lot of "leather" about the place
@Gsmithy yiiiikes! Didn't even think of that!
@TarkabarkaHolgy
"OK, first off there is NOTHING kinky about the blood drinking, it's just Yanis' bag, second, he doesn't take much and makes sure I get cookies and Gatorade after, and third, CHECK OUT THESE GORGEOUS FREAKIN' ESPADRILLES!"
@TarkabarkaHolgy Somewhat similar to the belief in the US South that evil spirits cannot cross water, so porch ceilings are painted blue-green (the color of water) to keep the evil spirits from coming inside the house. The specific blue is haint blue. A haint is a ghost or evil spirit.
@TarkabarkaHolgy suddenly Sicily makes a lot more sense.
