Dim sum with my maternal cousin Philip Ng a few weeks ago at the Greater China Club in Lai Chi Kok, #HongKong. My parents and I first came here last year with my paternal uncles, and their cute little animal-shaped dishes are delightful (and these bao were delicious; they were warm and their bottoms were nice and crispy). Phil was actually in the middle of filming a new action movie in Shenzhen and came down to HK for a short break; the day right after this he was back on set

As a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, #Hongkong has still retained its border to the Chinese Mainland. During hiking trips in the northern parts of the city one can explore the rural side of Hong Kong, including fruit farms, fishing communities and shrimp farm fields, and environmental wetland protection areas. However, on the other side of the border relatively young metropolis #Shenzhen has spread out across the horizon with numerous glass and steel skyscrapers. The contrast between the rural part of Hong Kong and downtown Shenzhen is stark and fascinating.

When hiking up the hills behind one of the many estates in #Hongkong it is very likely that one would come across some makeshift common areas like an open air gym, a communal open air tea kitchen, or maybe some type of gardening lot. Hong Kongers are as creative as any urbanites in reclaiming space and making it their own - especially in those urban/nature frontiers. Many times, those spaces seem to replace the living rooms of the locals, offering them a refuge from cramped living quarters. One more curious thing that one might stumble across are legions of #gods, or rather porcelain god statues. These gatherings are not as random as they may seem though. The statues symbolize the importance of those deities to local people and stand for disruption in their human's lives. Whether it was a move, or death those gods lost their place in their human's home. But who could throw away a deity? That is why many end up with peers in some secluded spot on the hills and mountains of Hong Kong - maybe abandoned but not lonely.

#HongKong: last remaining major opposition party took a key step towards disbanding itself on Sunday after a special meeting approved arrangements to do so in the face of pressure from China, amid a national security crackdown.

Five senior members of the Democratic Party had earlier told Reuters that Chinese officials or middlemen had warned it in recent months to disband or face serious consequences, including possible arrests.
