We are home from New York. It was just a one day visit to the city but it was a blast. All we did was wander around 5th Avenue while freezing our asses off. I shot a whole roll of 35mm film through my father’s camera. Awesome.

Today is December 15th. Xmas is 10 days away. You know what that means. It means that today starts the final xmas push. The to-do list for today includes wrapping presents by the truck load. There are a few errands to run too, but today starts the wrapping bonanza.

Bring it on.

Sheila Waters, wrapping paper design for Adelaide and Company, 1982.

Waters (1929–2022) was a British calligrapher who spent many years teaching calligraphy in the US. We are honored to have some of her calligraphy and lettering for teaching and clients, as well as work from her son Julian Waters.

I always stress out about glittery, plastic-y holiday wrapping paper that goes straight to the landfill. So this year I tried something different: reclaimed brown packing paper tied with jute twine. No plastic tape either. The whole thing will go into the compost bin when we’re done with it.

Anyone else have tips to reduce waste?

Santa just left our home. Now I’m up, stretching my trash grabbing arm, loosening up my hamstrings and lower back. Got my lawn and leaf bags at the ready. Trained all year for this one morning where I can tune out all the noise and focus solely on collecting every piece of wrapping paper and ensuring it gets placed in the proper receptacle. How #Holiday #WrappingPaper can be a metaphor for the absurdities of our #Capitalist system: only "big brand" wrapping paper has those handy cutting guides on the back, presumably because they've got a #patent and charge some obscene amount to license it. On the concept of some squares printed on the back of a roll of paper.

How is that patent providing any value to society? I'm all for compensating whomever had the original idea, but holding onto it for years? No way.
