PSG and Amnesty host visit from the families of repression victims in #Ayacucho and #Puno #Menschenrechte #Europa #Großbritannien
On 11-13 November, the #Peru Support Group had the pleasure of hosting Yovanna Mendoza and Mario Ilaquita, two family members of victims of the lethal state repression of 2022-23 protests in southern Peru. They were in London as part of a wider tour in Europe organised by Amnesty International to raise concern about the lack of justice.

Wilamaya Patjxa is an ancestral #Aymara archaeological site located on the #Andean #Altiplano in the Lake #TiticacaBasin, #Puno, #Peru. Mobile #forager populations occupied the high-altitude (3,925 m) site approximately 9,000 years ago. The site represents the earliest directly dated evidence of human occupation of the Titicaca Basin and thus offers insights into the behaviors and practices of some of the earliest humans to live in the cold, #hypoxic high-altitude environment.

Letter from #Puno: hard times and much grievance on the Altiplano
The ill-advised comment of President Dina #Boluarte that Puno is not #Peru has added hurt to injury here in the Altiplano. Boluarte has studiously avoided any hint of apology for the killing of at least 29 punenos just over a year ago, principally in Juliaca, Ilave and Macusani. Although she is the subject of a judicial investigation into the killings, there is also zero chance of her being brought to book.

#Puno commemorates its dead
This last week saw the anniversary of the killings that took place in Juliaca last year. While there were concentrations of people on the streets of the city and flags flew at half mast in most towns in the region, the rest of #Peru tended to look the other way. None of those members of Congress who purportedly represent the region were present; only two congresswomen (neither of whom represent Puno), Ruth Luque and Susel Paredes were there.
