#Australia
Logged into my #MyGov account for the first time in a while.

Overall things went well.
It now appears to be produced by competent #IT folk.
Unlike previously when drunken monkeys throwing custard might have produced a friendlier UX.

Only negative was the lie.
"Your account has been blocked after too many failed log-in attempts".
I tried once. With the correct password.
Very clear they just wanted to use 2FA and sms my phone number.

A slimey industry, with lies as standard practice.

Serious question: could #myGov become part of #DigitalID scheme and be merged with #myID, with all of the capabilities of myGov retained (website + multiple 2FA methods)?

To explain a bit, both myGov and myID are currently identity providers. myID is an app that can be used as an IdP for government services like ABRS. myGov is a website and app that can be used as an IdP for ATO and Centrelink among others. myGov supports multiple 2FA methods like SMS, Passkeys and (perhaps confusingly) myID. myID itself doesn't appear to have any MFA methods but is pinned to a device with one-off verification for that to happen.

Why not bring myGov into the Digital ID fold, and merge most of myID's capabilities into myGov? Since myID is also being used as MFA for myGov I would rename the myID app to "myGov MFA" so it could continue to be used for that purpose. Passkeys could be suggested for people who use the myGov app so they're not using the same device for password and second factor.

Wow.

I got an email (first time) from #MyGov (Australia) overnight saying 'You entered the incorrect sign in details too many times. Your account is locked". I haven't tried to access the account for months.

Just on a very long call to #MyGov to have it checked and found a page that shows account history and logins.

There have been 14 attempts to get into my account since 13 September and they haven't bothered letting me know.

psa: if you('ve) use(d) an ipad to sign and submit pdf forms for #centrelink etc, check them on the #mygov website. i had an issue with forms being submitted as not being filled in by me when i actually had because the additions i made using the default ipad files app were being stripped by the submission form.

this bug wound up with me getting less money for all of august. it was incredibly stressful and i don't want that to happen to anyone else. i wound up using a 3rd party app (goodnotes) while on the phone to centrelink to get this sorted.

i'm not sure if it's been fixed yet, but i sure hope it has.

It seems the #Australian Government found a new way of tracking its citizens with the introduction of the #DigitalId system called #TrustExchange.

While, at this point, it is difficult to make sense of how it will exactly work when released next year, particularly in terms of avoiding private businesses obtaining your personal details. But what it is clear is that it will provide an abundance of #tracking data to the Government.

I am sure #Police forces are salivating right now.

And as an added bonus, it will be linked to the terrible system #MyGov.

PSA:
Scammers are targeting people's MyGov accounts.
I just received email that said I'm locked-out of my MyGov account.
If you receive email like this, do not click on a link! If the email came from a scammer, they'll try to trick you into giving your password.
Instead, to the MyGov website, try to login, and if necessary do a password reset. Then go the the "My Account" section and make sure you have 2 Factor Authentication configured.

Presumably, a scammer got my email address and tried to login with it, and after failing a few times the system locked my account. All sorted-out now.
