The socialism we propose is radically different from the models that dominated the last century or from any statist or dictatorial regime: it is a revolutionary project, radically democratic, to which feminist, ecological, anti-racist, anti-colonialist, antimilitarist and LGBTQI+ struggles contribute.
Everyone could have a good life on Earth, but capitalism is an exploitative, macho, racist, warlike, authoritarian and deadly mode of predation. In two centuries, it has led humanity into a deep ecosocial impasse. Productivism is destructivism. The overexploitation of natural resources, rampant extractivism, the pursuit of maximum short-term yields, deforestation and land-use change are leading to a collapse of biodiversity, that is, of life itself.

Fourth InternationalManifesto for an ecosocialist revolution – Break with capitalist growthIntroductionThis Manifesto is a document of the Fourth International, founded in 1938 by Leon Trotsky and his comrades to save the legacy of the October Revolution from Stalinist disaster. Rejecting sterile dogmatism, the Fourth International has integrated the challenges of social movements and the ecological crisis into its thinking and practice.

@TheGreatLlama @thomasembree Understood. I wonder if it is the capture (or assignment) of the word "conservative" to specific actions that is part of the problem.

Supremacy culture is full of example of binary thinking in which one side is good and the other is bad. What do we lose in this model?

The caution required for binary thinking is not an argument for ungrounded relativism. It is a creative synthesis, somewhere beyond thesis and antithesis. Liberals may want to conserve energy and conservatives may want to advance individual liberty. We need not cede either.

I found this video/lecture excellent. Years and years ago I read The Communist Manifesto and sorta understood it. But this is a great orientation to what it actually was and is within its historical context and why it keeps coming back every so often as a popular read. I'm curious, is it becoming (or has it already) become popular once again?

"Along with the constantly diminishing number of the magnates of capital, who usurp and monopolise all advantages of this process of transformation, grows the mass of misery, oppression, slavery, degradation, exploitation; but with this too grows the revolt of the working-class, a class always increasing in numbers, and disciplined, united, organized by the very mechanism of the process of capitalist production itself." -- Karl Marx.

Now you're taking the debate back to the 1876 split of the First International. Centralists vs decentralists, stateist vs anarchist and which side of that fence you're on.

"Bakunin characterised Marx's ideas as authoritarian and argued that if a Marxist party came to power its leaders would end up as oppressive as the ruling class they had fought against"

"For Marx, nature and society are not separate. Praxis is the primary mode of metabolism in the real natural world, involving two components: humanity and the external nature it confronts. Human society is an emergent form of nature, and the 'social reality of nature and human natural science, or the natural science of man, are identical terms.'"

"Wealth inequality is one of the defining challenges of our time, yet class analysis – a fundamental pillar of sociology – has often had surprisingly little to say about it. Given this, Nora Waitkus explores how Marx, Weber and Bourdieu can each offer us ways to think about wealth inequality in a more nuanced way."

"Karl Marx, the self-proclaimed enemy of the exploitation of man by man, not only exploited his devoted friend Friedrich Engels financially, but also psychologically. Thus, only three months after Marx's wife, Jenny von Westphalen, gave birth to his daughter Franziska in March 1851, their live-in maid, Helene (‘Lenchen’) Demuth, whom Marx had ‘inherited’ from Jenny's aristocratic family, also gave birth to Marx's illegitimate son, Henry Frederick. ..." #marx #history #aphet #engels #karlmarx
