I'm not quite as cynical about why we're 'plunging forward". Writing notes after, or worse, during a visit takes up valuable #physician time that could be used for more direct patient care, reading up on topics, or going home a little earlier and seeing your family,
All this is true even in a fairly benign work environment like independent #directprimarycare.

Government agencies and insurers have touted the importance of #primarycare and how they will fix it throughout my career yet it has continued to get worse. Prepaying for routine care via them does too much harm.
I stopped waiting for them nine years ago. #Physicians and patients can fix most of what's wrong with primary care without them.

I'm part of a doc movement separating PCPs from the insurance racket. Don't prepay for routine , otherwise affordable care with the complicated, expensive system we use for emergencies, major illnesses, etc.
It's not the one solution, but it's a step in the right direction and should be part of any solution.

I was part of a #primarycare group for 12 years. Gave that up 9 years ago and started a #directprimarycare practice working for patients, not insurance companies.

Much of this is due to #feeforservice billing paradigm and prepaying for routine care via #healthinsurance
For #primarycare, it's simpler to dump both. That makes primary care efficient enough that we can provide it (and free phone calls and messages) for $44 to $99/month when the hospital clinic down the street is charging $173 to $351 per visit.
Save the insurance for big , expensive problems.
Anyone use #freed.ai or other #ai #LLM tools to complete #medical notes?
Even in the simpler #DPC model, taking notes is distracting while talking to patients and finishing notes later so that they are useful to others is a time consuming chore.
No relationship to freed.ai nor any other software, just hate this task and starting to read good things from colleagues online.

We're a #directprimarycare #familymedicine practice but still run into this frequently with insurers, i.e. automatic denials, followed by complicated time consuming online forms and phone calls, even "peer to peer" for tests that meet their criteria.

There are apparently a couple of #directprimarycare or #dpc practices on two of the islands. None listed on Kauai but sometimes these maps and listings aren't up to date so it might be worth calling one listed to see if they have colleagues on your island now.
DPC is a simpler, more affordable way of making the $$ work in primary care (typically about 1/5 of your old doc's new price)

@robsonfletcher While I'm not familiar with Canadian or Calgary medical law, I've run a lower priced membership practice in the US for 9 years.
We have similar concierge practices here like this that carefully write their contracts to charge memberships and bill Medicare and insurers as well. They're expensive.
Unlike Canada, US docs can simply cancel our contracts with insurers and "opt out" of Medicare so we can use a much simpler, less pricey model, #directprimarycare , #dpc
