https://www.mixcloud.com/caosleo/cassettina-2024/

Direi Chelsea Wolfe, i Thou e Mdou Moctar.

Okay all, the group #AOTY list is up! I've boosted the toot version from @1001otheralbums.com, but footnotes look like crap on here, so it might look better on the blog. Thanks everyone for taking part, there's some great stuff on here to check out - 132 albums, to be exact!

Happy listening! And remember, keep your friends close and your records closer. :ablobjam:

More from 1001 Other Albums

"I went hard on my favorite jazz albums of 2024 so this one will be a little lighter on my words. Not to worry, however – there was so much fantastic music this year that I’ve doubled this list to include twenty favorites as well. (It still might be too long for email so open in a new window if you must!) I could have made a case for slotting a handful of these on the jazz list but for one reason or another, I made my decisions and we’ll leave it at that. Genre labels are fluid and fleeting and useful for categorizing but can be a burden, too. I close every annual list intro with the following: please buy music that moves you and support artists directly. Love to everyone!"

Albums the Fediverse Loved in 2024

Okay all, here are 132 albums the Fediverse loved in 2024, mostly 2024 releases but also some earlier gems! Thanks so much to the 60 Fedizens who shared the albums that rocked their world – it’s nice to see some familiar faces from the 1001 Other Albums project, and some new ones! And, as always, it’s so lovely to get a glimpse into all our diverse tastes in music, and to see people trying something new solely based on a random Fedi recommendation.

Genre tags are included as tasting notes and each title is linked to its Bandcamp or Songlink (with the exception of 2 physical-only releases), so click and listen away – perhaps you’ll find a new-to-you album that gets you through 2025! Check out the footnotes to see who submitted each album, along with any extra comments they included (warning: some comments include MOAR ALBUMS).

Happy listening, and remember to keep your music close by this year, in case of emergencies. And, if you need more recommendations, you know where to find me.

I first saw them live on a boat in Stockholm, rubbing pieces of wood against each other, breaking branches, etc. On “Dry Routine”, there are also some woodwork, with sounds from both a regular and an electric saw, and all kinds of lo-fi field recordings, layered and looped into captivating pieces. So far, it’s my favorite release of the year. [Note link is to only one song; no digital release, limited vinyl.] ↩︎

  87. evilchili: The best close singers in the business delivered an aptly-named record of loss, death, mourning, and rage. Everyone needs to hear this record. ↩︎

"Like every year, 2024 was a great year for music, for anyone willing to look and listen. There are more people releasing more music than ever before, and I could feel despair over the fact that I’ll never have the time to hear all the incredible music that I might love. But I think it’s a good problem to have. I’m exposed to so much magic so frequently that I have to share the best of it just to keep track. That’s why I’m here, and why I’m always posting on twitter and now bluesky too. Algorithms have been nice for finding stuff that’s similar to what you already like, but lately they seem as broken as everything else that seemed so futuristically convenient a decade ago. All these services we’ve begun to rely on have eroded, often in line with mass layoffs at the companies that provide them. The human element is leaking entirely out of the corporate music infrastructure. So I think it’s more important than ever that regular people who are tuned in spread the word about the best new (and old) music they encounter.

So, here I am with the annual big album list. I couldn’t settle on just fifty again, or even sixty, so I’m dropping eighty great albums made in 2024 that I think you should really hear. Twenty of them are singled out at the end as the best of the best – especially masterful, poignant, mindbending pieces of music that touched me deeper than anything else I heard this year. Every album is listed with its record label and a link to check it out."

note(ノート)2020年代前半のベストアルバム50を作成してみて|THE MAINSTREAM(沢田太陽)どうも。
