Timothée Chalamet is too bland, insipid, milquetoast, and vanilla to play larger-than-life Bob Dylan. Even if A Complete Unknown is about Dylan’s humble beginnings, you still need someone who can hint at the greatness to come.

Saw A Complete Unknown, the #BobDylan pic, last week, and the first half was fantastic. The second half deals with the old acoustic-electric debate--which seems misunderstood to me. The debate wasn't aesthetic (acoustic guitars vs electric) but political (building a social movement based on a pure art form). Pete Seeger (Ed Norton) is given a little speech in the film, but it kind of misses the point -- again. I may be alone on this one!

Saw #ACompleteUnknown last night with a friend whose knowledge of early 60s #BobDylan was pretty slim. I really enjoyed it, but knew what I was in for and knew who the key characters were. I loved seeing what the Newport Folk Festival actually looked like, and I thought Chalamet pulled off the role with both elan and panache.

With all of that said, I gotta ask: does this movie make any sense to someone who doesn't know the milieu?

« Un parfait inconnu » de James Mangold, en dyade : d'une part, le film serait un non-biopic sur Bob Dylan qui refuse le programme du biopic pour en déjouer les pièges. Or, cette absence de programme tient lieu de programme. Elle parle de l'Amérique d'aujourd'hui. D'autre part, comment le film peut nous regarder, et parler à un enfant qui aime à se projeter admiré par autrui ?
