Dear actors I've known—are you ready to band together to push for mitigations to nip this issue in its already sizable bud or will you continue being complicit in Covid spread on-stage, backstage, and through the audience because the alternative is that you'll miss out on a role because the producer will cast someone else willing to be complicit (since bosses are never going to do correct until pushed)?

Canary · The angry theatregoer outburst at Macbeth: is Covid-19 actually the culprit?Evidence emerges Covid-19 is changing our neurological function. So, was the man's outburst at Macbeth due to a change in brain behaviour?

Look, my partner put his career on indefinite hold because the post-infection complications are as worrisome as death/hospitalization/severe illness and the rest of the people in the industry seem to have blithely accepted the risks.

Covid-induced health issues seem like legit fuel for the Actor's Nightmare, but, sure, keep pretending it's just a pesky little cold and everyone's new health problems are merely coincidental.

Canary · A ‘silent’ epidemic: has Covid-19 damaged the voices of artists like Macbeth's Lady Macduff??Voice loss at David Tennant’s Macbeth and the vocal health crisis in the performing arts: is it actually linked to Covid-19?

I don't love that they keep using this production of Macbeth as an example because the play has silly superstitions around it and actors, if they're of a mind, will dismiss the Covid stuff as the show's curse or whatever.

The profession of acting is already fraught, as there's no guarantee an actor will book a role or even get the auditions, so there's a desperation to grab opportunities while there are opportunities to grab. If you choose to not pursue work or if you choose to take every role offered while the the virus spreads unchecked, it's always a legit possibility that the last role you take is your last role.

Imagine deciding to go out in a blaze of glory, but the blaze/glory turns out to be part of the ensemble in a summer stock jukebox musical

@thatkatharine this article reminded me of how my most hated plague rat ex-friend, a professional singer-songwriter, lost his voice for nearly a year after his second covid infection. When it happened, my husband came home and asked me if I was a witch 😆 and I told him, no magical intervention necessary, these people are doing it to themselves :blobcat_thisisfine:
