New dilemmas of online etiquette: is it ok to comment under AI generated pictures and videos to tell the person gushing about them that they are fake?...
(I mean instances where someone goes "Nature is so beautiful!" or "What a talented child!", clearly duped by AI)
@TarkabarkaHolgy is it OK? Yes. Are you going to piss some people off? Also yes.
@SallyStrange Yeah, I was wondering if it verges on obnoxious "actually..." territory. But then again, the whole phenomenon also verges on obnoxious....
@TarkabarkaHolgy Exactly. Nobody likes being corrected, but sometimes it's necessary.
@TarkabarkaHolgy @SallyStrange You’re calling out misinformation/scams. It’s ethical.
@TarkabarkaHolgy I don't care if it's etiquette or not. It's a social responsibility.
@TarkabarkaHolgy i would say it's essential. it would need to be done politely and (if possible) in such a way as not to make the person feel thick, but yes. i feel like people need to know when what they're seeing isn't real; otherwise, the overton window of perception could shift quite dangerously.
@moonrabbit @TarkabarkaHolgy I like the "nice composite" or "nice rendering" under astronomical slop.
@cmdrSprocket @TarkabarkaHolgy very pertinent. although that assumes the casual viewer knows what those mean ...
@TarkabarkaHolgy I think it’s required!
@TarkabarkaHolgy Absolutely! They should know what they're admiring because some might feel differently about the image if they knew.
@TarkabarkaHolgy yeah, it's fine.
I mean, don't necessarily be rude about it (within given contextual bounds), but other than that, yeah, it's okay.
