Princess is sad >> Everyone else is sad to be respectful >> No one is spending on entertainment on vices >> People are saving a lot of money >> People are giving a lot of dowry and inheritance to their kids >> King is taking in a lot in taxes and bureaucratic fees.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Modern kings/governments get quite tense when citizens just sit on their cash, rather than spending/circulating it through the economy. Maybe waiting patiently for inheritance tax to kick in was easier back when life expectancy was shorter 
But if this kingdom didn't tax vices, since it wasn't losing out from reduced viceness, (I hope that's a word), it was being much nicer to its populace than most. Maybe that made up for having a Sad Princess.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Not so great for folks in the entertainment industry though. Unless they're able to pivot to other careers I guess.
