Looks like my next folktale collection is going to be about misunderstood animals What are your favorite misunderstood, misrepresented, or underappreciated animals?
"Kjetta på Dovre" / "The Cat on Dovre Mountain" has to be up there.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Pigs, I think. They’re fed up of being cliche capitalists or incompetent builders of houses.
@TarkabarkaHolgy take any random Hungarian folk tale about a prince or guy, where the fox or the horse tells them every step what to do and solves their problems. Those animals are the true heroes. (I know these have hidden meanings, bit still didn't wrap my head around these cases)
Wolves. They're always getting bad press.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Platypuses should be in there, though their situation may be more of bewilderment than misunderstanding.
Beavers are misunderstood. They save forest stands and seem to hate the sound of running water.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Vultures. Wolves.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Foxes are beautiful creatures and also misunderstood. They're also very clever and they will protect their babies from everything, and they're actually less likely to be sick than you think. They're very smart. Just keep your distance and let them roam in the wild, they won't hurt you. Just be careful.
@TarkabarkaHolgy Spiders and bats. Most of them are completely harmless to humans, but nearly everyone fears them, despite their usefulness in keeping insect populations (mosquitoes!) in check.
@szakib @TarkabarkaHolgy Seconded. Anybody who likes to eat mosquitoes is my friend.
@TarkabarkaHolgy aye-ayes would be a good one.
@TarkabarkaHolgy
Moles, worms, and in general any creatures that dig underground tunnels and bring life to the soil!
