"#Kremlin says new #US #sanctions will destabilize international #markets"

😲😲😲

My gosh, my dear man #Peskov, this sounds terrible!

But...

One moment, if I may, dear esteemed sir:

You mean it's not the stupid mass murdering #ethnofascist #imperialist invasion destabilizing things?

🤔🤔🤔

Think on it, you piece of shit

No one but cranial-cavity-voided morons buy this simpleton "no, u!" reverse-victim-and-offender #gaslighting #DARVO shit

@benroyce

... and it was totally unnecessary. All Putin had to do, when he came to power, was keep his cronies happy. Put an economic marble on that terrain, it would roll straight to Moscow and St Petersburg. Russia could be amazingly wealthy.

He would have friends.

But he's such a shitweasel, incapable of thinking strategically.

I don't give him six months more. His fall will be great.

@tuban_muzuru @benroyce I know it’s pessimistic, but I think Putin will only leave office when he dies of old age. There were people saying he would fall years ago. It keeps not happening.

@mister_shade02X2 @benroyce

That's a bet I'll take. Putin will die of gunshot within two years at most

@dsmdexter @tuban_muzuru @mister_shade02X2

some shadowy ghoul with a big payday

employed by mechanisms of power in russia that recognize the weakness and sense opportunity

that's the way a mafia works, and russia is a mafia thugocracy

@tuban_muzuru @benroyce @mister_shade02X2
As the walls close in.
Just imagine if the West had actually been serious about the "sanctions" from the start.

@dsmdexter @tuban_muzuru @mister_shade02X2

the problem with that is if you go all in from the get go on economic sanctions, you have nowhere to go to if russia behaves even worse

the way to use economic sanctions is to gradually accumulate them if russia stays shitty, gradually roll them back if russia acts better, and clamp them down tighter if russia acts even worse

it's not like firing a gun or setting off a bomb, there's huge inertia involved and you push and pull, harder or softer

tuban_muzuru

@benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

That's SOP for the West. It never works. It didn't break Saddam, it hasn't broken Iran, hasn't broken NoKo.

Who has it broken.

Ben, it's nothing but eyewash. Looks like they're doing something.

@tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

i don't know what to tell you. economic sanctions do work and they are real. their effects just don't manifest in a way we can appreciate with dramatic flair. stop looking for dramatic stark effects on this topic (unless there's an economic collapse, which is a long way away, but even then, i'm wondering if you would admit sanctions would have played a roll in that, when they would have)

@benroyce @tuban_muzuru @mister_shade02X2
If they can't produce dramatic effects when being employed against a vicious invasion, then they are the wrong tactic.

@dsmdexter @tuban_muzuru @mister_shade02X2

no, they are one tactic out of many, that you should certainly use, and not ignore merely because the effects aren't instant fireworks

@benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

The current Ukraine war has become a war of attrition. Whiz bang gadgets don't win wars. I've heard all this before, those cheerful chuckleheads in Saigon on the Friday Night Follies, telling us how many Vee Cee they'd killed. We dropped more ordnance on Laos and Cambodia than all of WW2, German and Allied, including the nuclear weapons.

This is becoming a Verdun, a lobster trap. Too little, too late.

@tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

that's a weird analogy to make, because the true analogy to the vietnam war is that russia is the usa and ukraine is vietnam

and who won the vietnam war?

@benroyce @tuban_muzuru @mister_shade02X2
The military industrial complex won. Everyone else lost. The same as with rus/Ukr.

@dsmdexter @tuban_muzuru @mister_shade02X2

when your mom just got killed by a russian shahed in yet another terror attack, you need a gun, and you are happy someone is making them for you

this doesn't mean i love the military industrial complex. it means those being murdered by ethnofascism need guns

they'll still fight with molotov cocktails and knives if they have to. because russia is genociding them. so ukrainians are happy for those arms factories, and that matters more than our cynicism

@benroyce @tuban_muzuru @mister_shade02X2
But I will be fucking pissed that I am fighting with obsolete weapons because they won't send the good stuff, and when they do, I'm not allowed to use it properly. And then listen to them talk about what good allies they are.

@benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

After the Vietnam War, the Russian navy moved into SE Asia's best deepwater port, Cam Ranh.

The Vietnamese called the Russians - in translation - "Americans without money."

The USA won that war in the long haul. We'd always been on the wrong side. Now Intel has a huge chip fab there... and the American tourists go up to Cu Chi to see the tunnels.

@tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

"The USA won that war in the long haul"

come on

yes, in some future decades, it seems like a win *as the situation changes*

in 1975, the vietnam war was a clear loss for the usa

it's like you're saying "germany won wwii because now it's in the eu and friends with its neighbors"

no, germany lost wwii, and then things changed over time due to many other factors

@dsmdexter @benroyce @mister_shade02X2

Trust me, the Americans finally grasped the stupidity of picking up the cudgels for the French after Dien Bien Phu. Took 'em a while. Ending a war you can't win isn't losing, folks.

@benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

Tell you who lost WW2 - Great Britain. An entire generation of men, plowed under the ground by WW1, only to have /their/ boys planted all along in pleasant little tree lined graveyards not far from their fathers.

@tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

well yeah, britain suffered mightily, but churchill wasn't sitting at yalta feeling like a loser while dictating the terms of a new europe with stalin and roosevelt

@benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

Churchill understood what the other bozos at that table did not: that a common enemy in Hitler did not make Stalin our ally.

@tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

churchill also understood less luftwaffe over london if the wehrmacht is tied up in kursk (irony, kursk is a battlefield yet again)

@benroyce @tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

That is absolutely not true. Vietnam was a direct consequence of russian ambitions that wrecked a country and we failed the information game. We fucked up, but ask any Vietnamese person in New Orleans how they felt about the Soviet cancer and they will tell you.

@benroyce @tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

I'm not explaining myself well. Russia has been beating us on the information game since Lenin at least. They are beating us now.

@eva_chaos @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

Russia's intelligence is infiltrated top to bottom. It is very good, kills at a distance, competent. But it has no secrets, anymore.

@tuban_muzuru @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

I've spent the last week breaking down a botnet on Instagram that is trying to destabilize US politics by associating the fires in LA with Gaza. You are questionable and boring.

@eva_chaos @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

The point I make about the Friday Night Follies is the baseless hope for winning a handful of true numbers. Even after Tet Offensive, the defeat of the VC, nobody believed the US military. And rightly so.

Ho Chi Minh wanted to emulate the republican system of the Americans, independence. Yes, USSR interfered and the USA was stupid enough to interfere. A failure of both diplomacy and military intelligence, as you say, we fucked up.

@tuban_muzuru @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

The russians won. They play the long, disastrous game while you pick at the details.

@eva_chaos @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

There's a good argument for the Russians winning - but Nixon went to China - and got us out of Vietnam. That's only a win by default. We went over their heads and concluded the war in Vietnam must end.

I do pick at details. Bad habit.

@benroyce @tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2
The Vietnam Memorial shows 42,000 names of American dead. It's considered a national tragedy.
To date in the Ukraine War, Russian death toll is 88,055.
When human lives mean nothing.

@jimgoodall @benroyce @tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

I have seen a russian commanders "motivational" speech to his brigade before an attack.

"All of you will die soon, but your name will be on a monument"

Also, in the war criminal records.

@jimgoodall @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

Honestly, the nation-state has outlived its usefulness. We need a new model, this current so-called republic is just failing everyone.

@jimgoodall @tuban_muzuru @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

that's a low estimate

Could be 150,000-200,000 russian dead (dead, not casualties)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualti

And the Vietnam war was 20 years (and its more like 58k dead for the usa for the whole 20 years not just the last intense "official" 10 years)

We're not even at year 3 yet in the Ukraine war

Absolutely bonkers

en.wikipedia.orgCasualties of the Russo-Ukrainian War - Wikipedia

@benroyce @jimgoodall @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

Ukraine's headed into a new recruitment phase and their guys are deserting in France, knowing what they face.

@tuban_muzuru @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

The russian invasion of a democratic, largest country in Europe has begun with attack and troop carrying helicopters.

Presently, russian invaders are conducting assaults on Motocross bikes and Golf carts.
They spend lives like drunken sailors spend money.

Sure, it's a war of attrition, but the invaders capability had been greatly reduced. By some accounts Yooks have now a slight effective majority in tanks and artillery.

To call it "Verdun" just helps to spread the imperialist propaganda of the russian satrap.

To call it "gadgetry" shows a naive understanding of combined arms that Yooks are getting better at all the time.

russia's ability to wage war must be destroyed, or they will regroup and invade again. They have shown that any piece of paper they sign is worthless.

@n_dimension @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

Verdun, insofar as a big chunk of this war has been waged in trenches, the artillery more accurate, but the fight is costly in casualties.

@tuban_muzuru it's true that sanctions haven't stopped Putin and that they've found lots of ways to bypass the sanctions, but it's a stretch to call it eyewash.

Sergei Lavrov got stuck in Brazil in 2023 because his plane wasn't allowed to refuel.

Russia is operating a shadow fleet of oil tankers to bypass sanctions, but having to jump through hoops adds friction and increases the cost of business. Some of the sanctions were targeted not to stop Russia, but to bleed its treasury.

They're still getting lots of sanctioned parts. Kazahkstan and Turkey's import/export business has been gangbusters. Not hard to guess what they're doing, but they're taking a cut.

Assad lost control of Syria. Russian ships are stranded off shore because they don't have parts to make the trip back.

It's not satisfying, but a thousand paper cuts does kill. I'd had preferred a bolder approach myself so there wouldn't be such senseless destruction and loss of life.

@benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

@sysop408 @benroyce @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

So stipulated. Sanctions have done as you say. They has not stopped the war in Ukraine.

Ukraine is running short of men to fight. It's a long, long defensive line.

@tuban_muzuru @sysop408 @dsmdexter @mister_shade02X2

And yet the Ukrainian people hold steadfast in their will to fight.

They even recently made a gain on the frontline composed entirely of robots.

They can bleed Russia dry at the ratio of Russian battlefield deaths to Ukrainian deaths even with the overall population ratio working against them.
