Counterpoint: No, there isn't

But sure, let's randomly assign incredibly loaded clinical diagnoses onto individuals who may have many valid reasons for not wanting to engage in-person with people, particularly ones who make damning evidence-free judgements of others and share them in a newspaper

@Garwboy what a weird assumption the author makes, I mean maybe I’m the one making weird assumptions, but I’ve never told my friends that I don’t want to see them because I prefer to stay home and scroll on my phone. I’ve also never heard those words come out of anyone else’s mouth.

As you mentioned, there are plenty of reasons why I wouldn’t go out, but none of them include because I would rather stay home to scroll on my phone.

@Garwboy Reminiscent of people who call those who refuse to use corporate-run social media because of data protection and privacy concerns "paranoid".

Both completely ignore the actual reasons why people prefer to do something and relabel systemic problems as individual failures.

there are words for people who make broad sweeping generalizations lacking nuance.
@Garwboy

@Garwboy She's an extrovert isn't she? I'm only mildly introvert but I'll be abstaining from that article. Maybe she likes a captive audience in the office? I can be social but I don't need to be. Who is the addict?

@Garwboy I flipped "meeting friends" and "phones" around in my head at first and agreed with her, but on a second, careful reading I disagree. 😤

@Garwboy My theory: Somebody fopped her off with a text (because she sucks & that person is too polite to just tell her that) and now she's butt-hurt about it....

@Garwboy

Extraverts feeling insecure because no one wants to talk to them.

@Garwboy this actually is a problem, but as always we misattribute it to individual choices. third spaces just don't exist outside the internet, especially since covid. (and even the internet sucks.)

the world is getting insanely antisocial because the powers that be don't understand how a human works. i live in a suburb and it's like a fucking wasteland here
