Shoutout to NBC Universal and #Redbubble for banning my #catfish version of the #Jaws poster, despite having policies stating that parodies fall under fair use. I'm pretty sure not a single human being was involved in issuing the takedown and evaluating my counter claim. #rude
Here are some screenshots of the aforementioned whacky #German #catfish headlines (crudely translated by me):
1. Is the monster catfish of Lüdelsen responsible for the death of a dog?
2. How many more innocent Dachshunds must die? (from Mönchengladbach)
3. Giant Catfish eats Dog (from Seina)
4. 2.5-Meter-Catfish even eats Swans (somewhere in Bavaria)
It’s almost like some kind of modern-day folklore…
...this genre of headlines was so prevalent it attracted its own meta-commentary:
1. What the hell is going on with catfish?
2. Giant Catfish swallows Dachshund in the Weser – did it really happen or is it Fake News?
There's even a song dedicated to "Killer-Catfish Kuno", a quasi-mythical dachshund-eating catfish responsible for a lot of headlines in the early 2000s:
@CatharticOutlet Ugh that sucks! It's the lightest possible parody too, does Universal just take down every fish looking upwards underwater?
@kapellosaur I think it’s a fully automated system based on image recognition, so anything with a similar layout and colors will be flagged. I’m probably not the only one who was affected. I contested it, at which point the claim should’ve been reviewed by a human, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t as I got a generic, seemingly automated response letting me know my use of Jaws was not authorized by NBC.
@CatharticOutlet Ah boo, what a crappy system!
