Philip Mallis 🇺🇦<p>St Vincent's Plaza - one of the few three track tram stop layouts in Melbourne.</p><p>It is an important interchange for the 11, 12, 30 and 109 tram lines. It is also the terminus for the 30 which uses a short siding further east.</p><p>The southernmost platform features a heritage tram shelter that I believe dates back to the 1930s and the M&amp;MTB.</p><p>The third platform services northbound Route 11 services to improve operational efficiency and reduce delays.</p><p>Taitset has a great video with more details here: <a href="https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kOWc5OrJoZc" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">m.youtube.com/watch?v=kOWc5OrJ</span><span class="invisible">oZc</span></a></p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/MelbourneTrams" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MelbourneTrams</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Melbourne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Melbourne</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/PublicTransport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PublicTransport</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Transit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Transit</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Tramstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tramstodon</span></a></p>
Philip Mallis 🇺🇦<p>New post out today about the new tram stop upgrades that were recently completed on La Trobe Street in Melbourne.</p><p>A great example of a project that we'll hopefully see a lot more of in the future!</p><p><a href="https://philipmallis.com/2024/09/06/new-tram-stops-on-la-trobe-street/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">philipmallis.com/2024/09/06/ne</span><span class="invisible">w-tram-stops-on-la-trobe-street/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/Melbourne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Melbourne</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Tramstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tramstodon</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/PublicTransport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PublicTransport</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Transit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Transit</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Accessibility</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Australia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Australia</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/MelbourneTrams" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MelbourneTrams</span></a></p>
Philip Mallis 🇺🇦<p>Love that new tram stop smell!</p><p>Brand new level access tram stops on La Trobe Street, this one is at Swanston Street.</p><p>Built to a facing platform island design, it includes a double length platform that's big enough for two E class trams, three pedestrian crossings per side and new passenger information boards.</p><p>It also has "State Library Station" for the soon to be open Metro Tunnel!</p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/Melbourne" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Melbourne</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/MelbourneTrams" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MelbourneTrams</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Tramstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tramstodon</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Transit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Transit</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/PublicTransport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PublicTransport</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Australia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Australia</span></a></p>

Funnily enough, they are called "Californian points" in some European languages.</p><p><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/tramstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tramstodon</span></a></p>

New at my Patreon... I sat in a Lisbon square, admiring the city's best tourist attraction - its compact yellow trams, as cute as anything made by humans can be:
