Duits in Venlo als der Zug nicht kommt
Half Deutsch/ English bij het Zwitserse hotel om in een land eerder te übernachten, weil I missed the connecting train.
Onverstaandbaar Zwitsers-Duits naast me, terwijl de serveerster en ander personeel in het restaurant parlare Italiano.
Uitleg over Frühstück in English et Français.
Dit is het Europa waar we elkaar in vele talen proberen te verstaan.

Once at speed, I can just turn off traction (the train equivalent of not pressing the accelerator) and just let it roll. Steel wheels on steel rails don't have friction, so I can go on and on for very long without using any power at all! (The Netherlands is a very flat country and I can assure you I'm not going downhill

Had a somewhat meandering conversation in German with a German bloke from Kaiserslautern today. We talked over beers on the train. It was the first time I've successfully done so without failing to English or an app. It really made my day. Thank you kind stranger! Traveling is wonderful and should be a right.

After 30+ years took the night train again. With ÖBB Nightjet from Zürich to Lesce-Bled. Took the luxury of a cabin for one. Quite different as interrailing as a teenager
