I’m new to Mastadon and still trying to figure out how this platform works, so I figure I should introduce myself. I work in #academia and write about #yalit, #comics, and #graphicnovels. I’m currently working on a book that examines what we can learn about how to live in an age of #climatechange from #yafiction. When I’m not writing and reading, I work with pre-service and in-service English #teachers and call the #razorbacks. Having lived in the #west, I’m an avid #hiker and #outdoors person.

After living in Fayetteville for over 6 years, I finally attended my first #Razorbacks sports event. It was women's gymnastics. All of the pomp, the regalia, the hype effort, the rituals, the slogans, the patriotism, and the songs. All of it looks and behaves like a cult. People were cheering without having seen what they were cheering about. While I applaud the skills of the athletes, I doubt many in the stands had a true grip on the sport. Just cheer and worship.
