Worrying news about Norway's metal detecting legislation: according to a new proposal, it might fall back from being fairly progressive to being worse than the Swedish one. That would only lead to #archaeology losing contact with the people who make important finds, people who are usually very happy to collaborate with us.

#Goodmorning from Fisksätra. I'm planning another one of my many fieldwork campaigns where I collaborate with the organised metal detector hobby. These lead on to papers in top scientific journals. But the local newspaper has its own ideas about what's important here:
"PRIVATE CITIZENS WILL BE ALLOWED TO SEARCH FOR GOLD USING METAL DETECTORS"

A friend who is a hobby metal detectorist asked if he could come and detect in our place. I laughed, saying he was welcome, but the thing would just beep continuously, everywhere.
