Wearing second hand altered tops today!

The blouse was originally a short dress/long top that I chopped up a little. The vest is vintage and it originally had a loop button closure lover down. I unpicked the leather triangles, moved them up and knitted i-cord ties to match. (Excited to learn a new technique!)

I love this combination, hopefully soon I'll have me-made trousers to pair with them!

Result after one week.
It was my first time using this technique for the border. So the border itself alone took 3 days. But I am happy with the results
I learned knitting when I was 6-7 years old. But after I left the Steinerschool I didn't knit that much anymore. I remember making a stola/shawl when I was 18. But that must be the only thing. I learned how to sew and that became my number one hobby. But when I got sick and I spent most of my time in the sofa I tried it again. Sadly enough I noticed it became to painful for my shoulders. So I switched to crocheting. I made many stuffed toys and shawls over the years. And then the cable needles became popular. I tried it and what a relief. It is so much more comfortable for my shoulders. So, new hobby/addiction unlocked. And busy with my first cardigan.
I hope to make a few cardigans this year. I love the process. But also as a statement against the ultra fast fashion. I sew most of my clothes. But wool cardigans, I still bought them. In theory I have enough clothes. But since knitting goes very slow, I am going to try to go slow and steady to make a full me made wardrobe. It will take years. But I enjoy the process. I have enough clothes for now, but I can replace pieces that get worn out by handmade items.

Today's progress in sewing: after getting the needed thread, I was able to get the neckline and the sleeve hems done for both dresses done. Hem has to wait until I set up the laser level because my body does not lend itself to an easy symmetry for hems.

More things learned with these, but the most important thing is that I (nearly) have two new dresses to wear around the house and for quick errands or out to lunch and it will hopefully encourage me to not go to work in pyjamas.

I think the next one will have the hems dialed in a bit better.

This weekend's sewing project:
Cleaning and oiling my sewing machines because they've been very good to me this week.

My hand made variation on the Pretty As A Pea Dress from @emmydesignsweden. I did some hand smocking on the yokes, technique kindly supplied by @betty_sparkles_sewing_fun. This colour is hard to capture. It's a nice dark green, not petrol.

I used a lekala pattern as a base and picked the sleeves from #Simplicity8506.

Fabric is a polyester crepe from @driessenstoffen.nl

My shoes are my beloved Juliette from @memeryshoes.

This pattern is my second published shawl, the Long Cuddle Shawl. It uses a slip stitch pattern that creates and extra dense and squishy fabric which, it turns out, is also extra warm. Absolutely perfect for cuddling into on cold days.

Because it’s so squishy, it uses 3 skeins of yarn. The sample was knit in a silk/merino combo from Mountain Colors Yarn.

I am officially 18.8 yards into my #30meterfabricchallenge and the lounge dress I just made does not keep me warm. I lined it and everything. Either I really did pick bad fabrics, or I need to go back to the Doctor and have blood work done, because I am freezing.

Anyway, I'm giving myself a break to think about whether or not I should continue with the hooded shell this lounge dress is supposed to have. I need to find heavier lining in my stash, or choose another project. While I'm in the challenge, I can't purchase more fabric. I feel like it may need different fabric. I'm not happy about it.

For now it is February and that means #frugalfrockchallenge. Clearly I love doing stash challenges otherwise how else will I sew through all of it. This one I get to mix up patterns to make something new. No new patterns, notions or finishing allowed for this one.

50p sheet into an entire holiday outfit!

Yep. Fifty pence in a charity shop, you literally can't go wrong.

I made this over the summer in preparation for our big family holiday, and remember I had to ask for help with gathering over at @sewing because it was being a nightmare and I am a noob. Worked out pretty well in the end, though! (Thank you Lemmy folks for the advice)

Lots of firsts with this skirt! Well, two firsts. I put pockets into a pattern that didn't have them, and also drafted a curved waistband so it would actually fit. Felt pretty pro after all that, I won't lie 😎

Patterns are the Cali Skirt and Ellie Bralette from etsy.com/uk/shop/NHPATTERNS, and I was about to shoutout @wisbr for enabling me with that link in the first place, but she seems to have gone and now I'm sad 😢
