Hmm, my son needs a laptop for school work

He knows his way around windows, but I hear that has a lot of "bugs" these days including one where it continuously takes screenshots of your desktop

He knows his way around various flavours of linux, but the best options for a reasonable linux-based laptop are from US companies (system76 for example) and I'm not buying from over the border at this time

Not sure where Chromebooks are at these days, but I'm not certain one will be suitable for his work, and I don't know if I trust Google much more than MS these days, especially around privacy

Apple is no saint, but it's looking like a cheap or refurbed macbook might actually be my least worst option

Any thoughts, oh great hive mind?

Ahahaha. The usb c port on my macbook air is starting to fail - only works when plugged in at a certain angle....

It's about 2.5 years since I've had this machine. Way past its programmed obsolescence I guess.

Now, I can live without a port or two. But the machine only HAS two ports. For EVERYTHING. What an idiotic design decision. Apple sticking to its founding principles: form over function! And dragging the entire sheeple industry with it...
