I like the fedi universe.

It has a vibe that makes sense to me.

However I am going to miss youtube when the full enshitification occurs and we lose its wonders.

How do we archive the highlights going forward?

I am going to miss the best of people making the weird and wonderful things, for reasons that only make sense to them.

And their unique humor.

Ich bin auf der Suche nach einem #Grinder für mein medizinisches #Cannabis, der auch wenn die Finger schmerzen, leicht zu bedienen ist. Leider bin ich selbst noch nicht so recht fündig geworden. Grinder aus Plastik oder Aluminium haben leider bei längerer Verwendung Abrieb, was ich meiner eh schon angeschlagenen Lunge nicht antun möchte.

Done!

Had to add another nut, threadlocked onto the threaded rod. This one keeps the lower bearing part from sliding up and vanishing into the now empty battery housing when the mill is opened to refill it with peppercorns.

Then carved and sanded the epoxy knob and finally sprayed on some satin black paint to match the original housing.

I am well pleased with the result. More control, @piggo 😁

Little top heavy, but it stands.

The inside of the grinder. The threaded rod protrudes up out of the lower cap, which had to be retained because it acts as a lid that keeps the peppercorns from falling out. About halfway up the free part, a nut is adhered to the rod to keep it down against the outer shell. For some reason an angry dog warning sign stands behind the mill.
The finished electric pepper mill, now converted with an upside down window handle to a manual one. The handle and shaped epoxy putty knob is painted satin black, matching the original design of the mill. It's locked between two nuts riding atop a washer to the top of the threaded rod that exits the mill housing at the top.
The same mill, now back in the kitchen on a tray full of condiments. There's a bowl of salt, some ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, oil and various other such things.

Been having some fun converting the silly electric pepper grinder to a manual one.

Drive gear was stripped because there's no clutch or shear pin or anything and when one peppercorn turned out to be a stone, the gear stripped.

The burr grinder is fine though and has a square axle. The driving wheel was sadly aluminium, so couldn't use that as I don't have alu welding equipment.

Electric pepper mill, upper casing removed, exposing a small DC motor and empty battery holder. The mid section is transparent and filled with peppercorns. The bottom is stainless steel.
A small gearwheel. The bottom part is stripped and the teeth ground down. A small area that wasn't touching the driven gear is still at original level for comparison.
A bunch of parts removed from the electric grinder, including gearwheels, various plastic parts, springs, a motor, some wires, etc.
The bottom part of the pepper mill with the top removed. A black plastic cover keeps the peppercorns from falling out and exposes part of the square top shaft that drives the burr grinder on the bottom. A threaded rod has been filed on one end to a matching square and is being held against the grinder shaft.
