Recently wrote about the old debate VMs vs containers: https://shivering-isles.com/2025/04/kubernetes-vms-vs-containers
And how I moved a lot of my #Kubernetes workloads from #Containers to #VMs without losing any of the benefits of Containers and Kubernetes.
Oh look, another earth-shattering revelation: serverless is a scam! Who could have guessed?
But don't worry, you can always go back to good ol' #containers, because what's more exciting than reliable old tech?

Are FreeBSD Jails a Containers? | @vermaden
「 IMHO the term Containers is not reserved to Linux Podman/Docker solutions. The term Containers was in the BSD/UNIX land long before Docker or Podman saw any light of day – and yet – now the new kids on the block are to decide what to call a Container or not?
The FreeBSD Jails were introduced in year 2000 as a Container technology – some called it improved chroot(8) on steroids also 」

We have a new post up on the BRIC newsletter about how we're using tools like Docker Desktop to solve some problems specific to science: sharing your work with other researchers to replicate, and navigating getting the software running in the first place when each institution is different.
Here's the 5 part series we created on using #Azure Functions inside #containers. We go from local dev in #docker desktop to a local #kubernetes cluster to Azure Container Apps to simulate dev --> stg --> prod deployments!

Documentation in operating systems is cool. It is possible to extend and rewrite utilities as time goes on, as #freebsd proves. You can still have cool utilities, like #containers and #zfs and #hypervisors, good docs for them and a consistent base system.
I dunno where I am going with this, other than wishing I didn't have to peruse the Arch wiki and the Gentoo wiki for everything when I get stuck, and instead could just "man xyz" and get good answers, speaking as #nixos user.
AI teams without containers are like pilots with no runway.
Here’s how containers supercharge AI workflows — from dev to deployment.
