New Mexico peeps - here is info about statewide local elections that are coming up in 2025...not just info about your particular county, but how the various types of races are set up and how they will look on the ballot.

I'm doing this to help boost civic engagement, voter education and registration and other good stuff.

If you want the 2021 NM Election Proclamation for the entire state (8MB pdf file), or an excerpt of your county...email me at tom.krajci@gmail.com

=======================

What local election races will be held in 2025?

The official answer won't be released until about August of this year. The NM Secretary of State will release their Proclamation for the 2025 RLE (Regular Local Election). That document will describe every race in the state, sorted by county (alphabetically).

But I'm providing an excerpt of the 2021 Proclamation that is 99% correct. (More on that in a bit.)

"Why", you may ask, "in the name of unholy fuck has this message not resonated throughout all societies, that non-violent resistance to injustice & oppression is twice as likely to succeed than an armed uprising!?"

And right you would be. We need to stop lionizing violent hero figures & start understanding & celebrating literal people power.

Thanks to teacher Sandra Martinez, the AAUW Thousand Oaks chapter, and the TOHS Latino Youth Leadership Group for inviting councilmember Gutierrez and me to attend today’s session on city government and youth involvement.

Students asked really good questions about representation, mass transit, and the role of local government. Councilmember Gutierrez and I encouraged them (and everyone, really) to become more engaged in civic life.

What do people think of a lecture series on how government works? Does anyone know of any groups doing this? I live in a very red, small town, rural area and would like to make it as politically neutral as possible. But it feels like a good chunk of the populace has no idea how government works, how to contact your congressionals, etc. Please contact me with any resources or ideas, thanks!
