Open Data Day Taiwan 2025 – New Venture for New Ideas

With “Local Stories” as this year’s theme, we introduced our partners from diverse backgrounds to the world of open data and demonstrated how leveraging open-data workflows can enhance community work and foster deeper engagement. We united local activists, tech enthusiasts, academic researchers, and other community members to share their experiences and dedication to local community engagement and revitalization. Across eight sessions, we examined how open-data workflows can be integrated into anthropology research and documentation, helping to preserve past efforts while offering new perspectives for future public discovery and reuse.

"A critical laboratory for surveilling sexually transmitted diseases (#STDs) in the US has been lost in the Trump administration's mass layoffs…One of its most remarkable projects is a one-of-its-kind repository of 50,000 isolates of gonorrhea used to monitor antibiotic resistance, which is quickly becoming a global health concern. The lab has been doing this work for nearly 40 years -- but will now, at best, have a gap in data."

This rules so much. Ultra is the current best in class offering for making specific interest maps from OpenStreetMap data. Immediately updated, no infrastructure to run, trivial to share etc. It's not close.

I am so happy to see folks using it to visualize and help encourage mapping of things that are near and dear to them.
