Day 27 cont ⚫🟡🔴 Colours 🇦🇺

#PeterDutton 🥔🤓 (#LNP, #Liberal, #Coalition, #Nationals) says he wants welcome to country ceremonies respected even as he reaffirms his push to unite #Australians under “one flag”.

🥔🤓 made the comments after disruptions at #AnzacDay services and the sudden cancellation of a welcome to country ceremony at a major #NRL match in #Melbourne.

The #MelbourneStorm is facing criticism after it informed #Wurundjeri elder #AuntyJoyMurphyWandin she was no longer needed to perform the welcome to country ceremony at the club’s annual #AnzacDay clash at #AAMI Park against South Sydney on Friday night.”

Across the street at the #MCG the welcome ceremony was performed for the #AFL ANZAC clash with Essendon verses Collingwood.

Day 27 cont 🗺️📍🧭
“Here's where your political #leaders have been campaigning so far”

Where are they missing?

“Neither of the leaders has set foot in an #Indigenous community. That is despite the #PM's(#Labor) victory speech from 2022 opening with a commitment to the #Uluru #Statement from the Heart.” (NB: Labor was the Party to hold, “The Voice” referendum.)

“Mr #Dutton (#LNP / #Liberal / #Nationals / ##Coalition) has been noticeably absent from sites where ☢️ #NuclearReactors ☢️ would be built under his proposed #power plan, and he has deflected #questions from #journalists about when he might visit.”

Where the UK was involved, Menzies could be embarrassingly obsequious @CaraBruar
He was a traditional Son of Empire.

H. V. Evatt was deeply attached to the symbols, traditions, and perceived unity of the British Empire and Commonwealth. Had Evatt been in power, he might not have acted much differently.

At that time, the dangers were not appreciated, nor even known.

Yeh, I was being a bit hyperbolic @Old_IT_geek

Fraser mellowed over time. He and Whitlam even became friendly.

I was a Liberal voter in the early 1970s. It was Fraser who convinced me that the Coalition were unfit to govern. Needless to say, they're far worse these days.

Fraser eventually quit the Liberal Party. When accused of moving to the Left, he responded that the Party had deserted him, more than the other way around.

Conservative political parties tend to drift further and further to the Right, until they're no longer viable. That's what Menzies was dealing with.

The Institute of Public Affairs had been formed the year before, with the expressed goal of creating a party that was 'not Labor'. Menzies fought for the Liberal Party to be more moderate than most in the IPA wanted.

@Tooden
When Menzies assembled the Liberal Party from the rubble of failed Conservative Parties, Australia was at war with right-wing aggressors. He didn't want what he was creating to look too much like what we were fighting.

Few Australians at that time would have voted for todays Liberal Party.
