It's so painful to watch Ted running around trying to please everyone, fixing everyone's problems, and bending his boundaries every single time when they didn't work for Stella.
Ted was too hopelessly romantic to realize what he was looking for wasn't a romantic relationship. He was always meant to be with the Mother, because what they had, was the most beautiful friendship.

As I re-watch ‘How I Met Your Mother’ I’m more and more convinced, it should have ended at 8 seasons. We’ve already seen Ted’s wife in two episodes, we know who she is, we like her enough.
Season 9 mostly undoes all the magic of the first 8.
