#Trump ORDERED [yeah, he’s not allowed to do that] US AG #PamBondi to investigate allegations “regarding the unlawful use of online fundraising platforms to make ‘straw’ or ‘dummy’ contributions or foreign contributions to political candidates & committees.” #GOP-led congressional committees have put forth similar #ConspiracyTheories about #ActBlue’s practices over the past few years, but the claims have never been substantiated with evidence.

The real #WeaponizationOfGovernment:

#Trump & #GOP ramp up investigations of #Democrats

Trump directed his AG to investigate fundraising platforms such as #ActBlue, the central fundraising apparatus of the #DemocraticParty — escalating his effort to use his power to target political opponents & —in this case — the core machinery of his opposition.

Texas Senate considers whether college students without legal status in U.S. should receive financial aid

State Sen. Mayes Middleton, the Galveston Republican who authored Senate Bill 1798, says it would amend state law so that students without legal status — including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients — would also have to pay out-of-state tuition rates to attend universities or colleges in Texas.

Answering all...

I agree. I don't trust them (#GOP, #Trump) to do the right thing ever again. How bad it could get is hypothetical and (for me) less important than how bad it is already!

"Focus on what they do, not what they say" is the axiom as always.

Comparisons to Germany in 1938 are very relevant IMO.

Let's start by getting our current "disappeared" back from detention!

Remain calm, be kind, and carry on regardless! ✊

"a Barnard #history professor, said it reminded her of her research into 1930s Italy, when lists of #Jews were put together by the local government. “We’ve seen this movie before, and it ends with yellow stars,” she said.

It also troubled her that the #government appeared to be “fishing” for reports of #antisemitism.

“Evidently, they don’t have sufficient people to file #lawsuits, so they have to go shake the trees to find people?”"

"As a #Jew, she said she found it “a bit terrifying” that the federal #government “wants to know who the #Jews are through some text message and Microsoft Office form.”

...They then expressed dismay that Barnard did not tell them that the university was sharing their personal cellphone numbers with the government.

“Clearly, it made everyone scared”"

Sometimes it feels, if you don't cheat, you don't play the politics game in the USA hard enough.

And the Democrats seem to play by some rules, while the #gop have long forgotten that even a constitution exists. Laws? Laws are for losers.

@CrickettGrrrl @Rhona_Redtail @tjcrowder @thefwguy @randahl Let's not overdramatise.

Yes, the #gop is good at #votersuppression

They got certainly better at it in 2024.

Yes, they managed to disable a number of federal safeguards in the years before 2024, so the red states can be even more creative in their voter suppression.

(Let me put it like this, US elections, from the perspective of an European look barbaric, purely on the organisation level, 3rd world level style elections.)
