I have started on the second half of the Shooting Star Snapdragon pattern, and I am still enjoying it.

#OTD the #Titanic sank in 1912. When I was a very small child, I knew an old woman who narrowly escaped this disaster. As the governess of a US millionaire's children, she was supposed to be travelling on the Titanic. They arrived too late in England and couldn't get tickets.
Shortly before her death, she gave me some old #yarn. I haven't dared to use it to this day because it's like travelling back in #deepTime. 113 years can feel so near.
Goal of 5 minutes a day of fiber arts seems so much more approachable when all I have to do is sit down at my wheel, grab the roving that’s already there, and start spinning. Even if I only do it for 5 minutes, it’s better than nothing, and it feels productive and calming. It’s not that picking up a small knitting project or my supported spindle is difficult - it’s just that the barrier to sitting at my wheel is so low, I barely even have to think about making time. #HandSpinning #FiberArts
More on the Ivy Scarf, kerchief option, worked in Classic Elite Giselle mohair, color Cloud.
All charted, it's a surprisingly easy pattern to follow. Also offers long narrow version in two sizes.
Trying for one chart done daily. There are six, A through F. This is one of those times when it's helpful to have several WIPs going at once - I can switch back and forth.

I just realized I didn't actually post the picture. Whoops. #crochet #fiberarts
And here's the end result: I'm very happy how this pattern turned out, it was easy to follow and the video has given me more ideas for a slightly different implementation.
Taught myself helix knitting, and goodness, I LOVE it. This is knitting stripes with multiple skeins of yarn, and having NO jog between the colours. I'm making plain socks (my favourite kind) as a mindless knit.
More what not to do when framing needlework.
These by my grandparents were framed by *professional framing companies* (in Vermont South and Knox - both no longer exist). One was a tapestry, and another a woolen embroidery behind plastic (purchased as glass).
1 Rusting staples, and mountains of them. Rusted fabric.
2 Sticky tape - packing (!) tape was used, *on the fabric* - staining and brittleness.
3 Heavy chipboard backing plate instead of a proper spanning frame - this swells and bows as it absorbs moisture, crumbles with age as the glues (!!) break down and wood oils come out - discolored fabric.
4 Nailed in place through fabric, backboard and frame at an angle - rusted.
*gah*
The second - brown laminate (!!) backboard, masking tape, packing tape and more rusty staples, both originally nailed into the frame. So much discoloration!
The re-mount (my father) of the last used sensible brackets to hold the tapestry in place ‘cos nails had split the frame and the tapestry had fallen out.
I need help from the #crochet bubble out there
At a craft group recently I was shown a "modified" single crochet (US terms). She uses the stitch for making socks as it's a bit more elastic then the standard sc. And I think there was an additional yarn over somewhere (not sure), but it was less bulky than a half double crochet
Any idea what that might have been?
Searching for "elastic single crochet" and "modified single crochet" doesn't help.
Edit: see reply
New #WIP! This one is a triangular kerchief for a medical aide here, Marietta, who has been very helpful with me and my recovery.
Pattern is the Ivy Scarf, yarn is Classic Elite Giselle in the color Cloud, US4 ChiaoGoo needles. It's weightless, and except for the tinking back and frogging experience, a delight to knit with!

Ye Olde Stack 'O Swatches. Amazing how each one holds a memory. And, can see how my swatching in particular and knitting in general have improved.
Reflecting - This art/craft of ours is blessedly diverse. Some days I want to knit all the things. Other days it's sorting scraps, a match for the spoons I have.
I feel so blessed to have the chance to begin again with fiber arts. <gratitude>

I also just finished this bag which was super quick and I love all the rainbows. (I might have to embroider something anti-fascist on it) #crochet #fiberarts
The next Fedi #CraftClub meeting will be Sunday, May 4, at 10a pacific/1p eastern!

We're usually there for 2 hours.
Craft Club is meant to be a chill space - I ask that you not bring up politics. I want people to be able to talk about their personal lives and experiences, but this is a time to not dwell upon the horrors.
sign up at https://lu.ma/b01c42uu to receive an email with the zoom link (should arrive about an hour before)
I finished my Noro granny hex blanket! I wish I could've made a queen sized one but it was already getting a bit $$. I loooove how it came out.
(With bonus Strudel)
Do I know anyone who will be going to the Connecticut Sheep, Wool and Fiber Festival on April 26? What should I buy/look for while I'm there? Besides some fun fiber for my drop spindle.
Listen I'm plugged into the #fiberarts on here and the #knitting community. I would like to know how it is that I almost didn't see this? Did one of ya'll do this?
WIP Tunisian Knit Stitch Blanket

I've been poking at Pixelfed, hoping to find a fediverse alternative to Google Photos. I don't think it's really what I need. But I do have some photos there -- here's a cool one: https://pixelfed.social/p/ddrake/816666846511902567
Copying that here: one thing I did not expect about Peru was the unbelievably rich culture of fiber arts. Weaving, spinning, knitting, dyeing, crochet, knitting -- it's EVERYWHERE. Women all over use woven cloth like this to carry things -- you just bundle up your stuff, tie the thing around your shoulders, and go. From groceries to small children, they carry everything.
These aren't just practical and functional, the patterns and colors are simply stunning!
