L'hétéronomie est la décision de règles par un groupe social pour un autre – par exemple, le Code du Travail, l'Éducation nationale, ou le système judiciaire. Un cas emblématique dans les démocraties occidentales est le réseau de prisons privé aux États-Unis – imposition de règles par une population blanche sur une minorité noire (avec une ultra-minorité active et une large majorité désintéressée, non concernée). L'anomie est l'absence de toute règle et donc, selon É.
