Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu begins a four-day visit to Hungary on Thursday, defying an International Criminal Court arrest warrant over allegations of war crimes in Gaza.

As a founding member of the ICC, Hungary is theoretically obliged to arrest and hand over anyone subject to a warrant from the court but Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made clear when he issued the invitation that Hungary would not respect the ruling.

@hans unfortunately there's no such thing as expelling EU member countries, but it is possible to revoke the right to vote to a country.
That's what should be done, imho.

@s1m0n4 That's why I said we need a procedure for that. We can't sit idly by and watch Orbán frustrate most of what the Union wants to do, and be a huge leak between the EU and Russia.

Orbán has no problems welcoming Russians and even provide them with Hungarian and therefore European passports.

It's pretty foolish that we see the mole but have nothing to whack it.

@hans I think that receding Orban's right to vote is a valid solution. Expelling Hungary from the EU prevents Hungarians from accessing EU opportunities and rights. And that isn't fair imho.
Making them a powerless member state instead is as effective as kicking them out when it comes to decisions.
As for passports offered to Russians, even without Hungary this is something wealthy Russians can easily get in Cyprus or Slovakia (at least until the end of Fico's mandate).

@s1m0n4 True, it's not the country or population we have a problem with, but I'm not sure if revoking its voting rights will do.

The best measure(s) would be something by which the population realizes Orbán is destroying Hungary's European future, and elect someone else.

And yes, Hungary isn't the only leak in our passport union, unfortunately 😠

@hans Do you truly believe Hungarians voted for Orbàn? Those elections are a joke, like in any other dictatorship.

Still I agree that something must be done. We can' t continue being obstructed by a single undemocratic country in the

@s1m0n4 Well, he was elected initially. Not sure about the re-elections. Point is that only the Hungarian people can make him go away.

If people understand what it would mean for their country and them if they get kicked out of the union, maybe they would set things in motion.
