@pitrouillesque I do feel like there's an increase in usage (anecdotally).
The tech I personalities that tend to follow went with Bluesky because the devs that they follow went to Bluesky.
I'd like to also know how we do that without sounding completely obnoxious :(
@biscuit Yeah me too, I noticed a wave of introduction post on the 25 and 20th, following between others movements to leave X on the 20th, and people who had accounts coming back following the wave. Sadly I have the same issue, and I hear that the instance issue can be hard or confusing, I can't dismiss that. Also gut feeling. I'd like not to sound obnuxious too, that's the issue, but Bluesky is nowhere near as alive as here and people get understanbly tired, but all big accounts are there.
@pitrouillesque It's nice to see Pixelfed get a nice bump though!
@pitrouillesque I wish I knew. I am a Swedish woman who is fed up with Meta and X and have tried to get my friends to join me here, but they are really stuck in facebook and don't bother enough to make the effort. But I will not give up on them.
@pitrouillesque https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8FKFaxo/
I'm just making videos about how to use the product.
I'm not trying to evangelize people.
Somebody who's been in sales and support for years. I found that the best approach to sell a product. Is not to sell the product.
Just show it off. " Like man I really love these heated seats in this car."
"This how to configure the personalized heat setting for you seat"
The sell comes naturally after people are interested in the product.
@pitrouillesque another thing is.
That you had to actively engage with the people who decide to move to the platform.
So in my initial video I told people to use the #tiktokrefugee
And also to use the #introduction.
I'm now following those hashtags and I'm actively interacting with the people.
They are not used to mastodon's way of building a feed.
Which is unlike any other algorithm out there.
In that, you are the person who is solely responsible for curating your feed.
@txtechnician Yup, I try to do that (I'm here since 2022, I tried to support people who gave a go at the second migration), I tried and answered to people who joined like on the 25th - I say welcome if content isn't specific enough, else I repost, follow, make comments... So they can be visible, especially since followers are more important on other platforms, it gives them a sense of familiarity.
@txtechnician I also repost or give them tips if needed even if I joined a long time, I always repost the tips just in case. I tell them to go and ask me if something stops them from posting or if they don't understand something :) Social link is important for me to stay somewhere. This is exactly why I don't manage to stay on Bluesky despite my friends being there.
@pitrouillesque I've been on here for about a year now.
The only reason that I came here was because an open source product that I use had mastodon integrated into it.
I found it really easy to use. But I'm also a tech person.
When AI took over. I ended up leaving Reddit. And I switched over to tiktok as my main place. Because falsifying videos is much harder than creating an AI bot to do text chat.
I really like being able to converse through video.
And I would like to do that on AP.
@pitrouillesque but I am finding that difficult to do for a couple of reasons.
- each server has a limitation on videos that is much too small for an average camera. (My pixel defaults to high res)
- no simple way to make videos ala TikTok
To solve these problems. I created a script on my computer. That takes my longer videos that I shoot with tiktok. And breaks them down using ffmpeg. To a small enough size and time limit. That's how my videos were uploaded.
@pitrouillesque I have never attempted this before. But I am interested in creating an Android app. Or hopefully one that I can build using something like flutter. So that it's available on all platforms.
I want to make a simple app that would allow for video editing in the same way that tick tock allows. Except I just want it to have the ability to do green screen photo.
And to also allow for subtitles.
I did a brief look into this. And I found some plugins for flutter that use ffmpeg.
@pitrouillesque I'm not entirely sure where to start with this. As it's something that I've never attempted before.
And I also lack time for... Anything really.
But I think it's still worthwhile effort to try.
@txtechnician @pitrouillesque folks got lazy with those algorithms. Now they have to try.
@pitrouillesque I joined universeodon.com because I saw George Takei was on it. If we could get some more celebrities interested (I see some are promoting that $30million bluesky fund)...
