My daughter: "A CAR!"
Relative: "A car?... But you are a little girl!"
Daugther (indignant): "NO! I'm a BIG girl!"

My grandmother, who learned to repair cars as a teenager, used to give toy cars to every little girl she knew, and when questioned by parents (in the 50s and 60s) would remark, “what if a doll needs to go to the hospital?” I thought that was nicely sneaky.
