Meanwhile in Canada

Every year, Nova Scotia provides Boston with its official yuletide tree as a thank you for the city's response to the 1917

An estimated 2,000 people died and 9,000 more were injured.

Aid from was the 1st to arrive, and the response has not been forgotten.

The will leave Halifax on Nov. 21st for its 1,100-kilometre journey to Massachusetts. A tree-lighting ceremony will take place at the Boston Common on Dec. 1st.

It's heartwarming to be sure but rather than chopping down a tree that was probably around before that horrible explosion wouldn't a nice card also show our undying appreciation. How about food for the poor, not clam chowder obviously but something like Maple Syrup, which uses trees without killing them.

@MeanwhileinCanada I’m a lifelong Massachusetts resident and this is honestly one of my favorite yearly traditions. Love hearing about where the tree comes from every year and the trip it makes to get here. And we all love seeing it on the Common. Thank you to our wonderful neighbors ❤️

@MeanwhileinCanada Was the largest man made explosion prior to the nuclear age

@MeanwhileinCanada dont is more easy simple send one tree with its roots to planting one in Boston and don't need to send a new every year?

@MeanwhileinCanada As a someone with roots in Boston and Nova Scotia, in case Nova Scotians haven't heard it from a regular person- Thank you. It is always absolutely beautiful and helps remind us of our shared history and that Boston has international neighbors in our community.

@MeanwhileinCanada I’d never heard of this before. Typical Yank, I know. Off to Wiki.
Wow!

@MeanwhileinCanada I love to see the tree each year. They cover it on our local news as it leaves, and when it gets here. And then the big lighting event is a whole show too.

Thanks / merci for the #TreeForBoston! 🌲

@MeanwhileinCanada wish I could immediately love this historybyte. Washington, Oregon, California are my southern neighbours; Boston is a hockey team that plays dirty. Our references are so different in the west.

But the Bostontribethen you speak of sound like hero/ines. A respectable crew. Real People.

In the spirit of history and the spirit of humanity, I love that people remember and cherish and share that which ties them to others. It really is a beautiful thing. #YVR #Canada #peace
